Kicking off this year's Provost Lecture Series, Hani Sewilam, professor of sustainable development and water resources management, delivered a lecture titled "Together Towards Sustainable Development" on Sunday, October 16 at 3:30 pm in Moataz Al Alfi Hall. Sewilam addressed the sustainability challenge as a problem plaguing not only AUC, but all of Egypt. "Currently Egypt is facing dramatic population growth coupled with unsustainable development activities," he said. "This unsustainable development did not position Egypt among the industrial or developed countries. It positioned it only as having the highest prevalence of Hepatitis C in the world and 12 million Egyptians living in vast slums."
