is this when humanity learned to create AI and later HAL?

I am just realizing how much impact this film had on me. 2001 was completed in 1968 and I was a junior in high school. I will never forget the first scene in which the apes/gorillas/monkeys/ancestor
s, etc (?) first experienced the monolith and then this scene depicting humanity reaching the moon for which a signal went out to the "makers" when sunlight first hit the monolith. Huge impact when I was a kid. Now I have 37 years of meditating. A lot has occurred since this film. -
By far one of the greatest movies ever made.

unlike first monolith in pre-history, the moon monolith didn't teach humanity anything. it's purpose was to send a strong radio frequency towards Jupiter, which would prompt humanity to travel there, at which point the 3rd monolith which orbits Jupiter would teleport the human/s through space and possibly time to the 'zoo' or whatever it was. then the 4th monolith transforms the human into a 'starchild' and sends them back to Earth. 2nd & 3rd monoliths direct/move people. 1st & 4th change them

2001 is notable for many things, especially its scientific realism.
Though Kubrick & crew did a great job with many weightlessness effects, this scene shows a major flaw: the weight of the men as they walk.
That's understandable considering when the movie was made; before moon landings and without advanced CGI. But the appearance of 1/6th gravity could have been achieved with other methods.
Overall, the music and the desolate backdrop are still effective in this pivotal scene.
