June 2, 2010. Dr. George Perkovich, director of the Nuclear Policy Program of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Washington, D.C., visited Berlin and met with German media and decision makers to outline and discuss his experience at the UN Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference in New York last month. Dr. Perkovich discussed some of the internal dynamics of the NPT review conference, and called the outcome an "incremental success." Asked about Germany's call for the withdrawal of alleged nuclear weapons in Germany, Dr. Perkovich said that according to NATO doctrine, this should be a consensus decision by the alliance and not one made unilaterally by any member state.
