Lyrics:

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night

He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing stretching every nerve
I had to listen had no choice

I did not believe the information
Just had to trust imagination
My heart going boom boom, boom
"Son," he said, "Grab your things, I've come to take you home."

To keeping silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut

So I went from day to day
Tho' my life was in a rut
'Till I thought of what I'd say
Which connection I should cut

I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey," he said, "grab your things, I've come to take you home."
Yeah back home

When illusion spin her net
I'm never where I want to be
And liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free

Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes, but still can see
No one taught them etiquette
I will show another me

Today I don't need a replacement
I'll tell them what the smile on my face meant
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey," I said, "You can keep my things, they've come to take me home."

It's a rarity to find people so young who like music with meaning. Songs these days rarely have a story to it or any meaning behind it whatsoever that is worth recognizing it for. I'm proud to be someone in our generation that enjoys music of past generations.

You've misinterpreted my sentence. Writing, performing, and producing music is very much a noble endeavour and an achievement worth advertising. Merely listening to a song is not. Age doesn't really factor into the equation at all, except in a physical sense (for example, the gradual decline of a singer's vocal range with the passing of time - Gabriel himself hasn't been wholly immune to this).

So, neither age nor listening nor any part of production or performance of song matters, your last post says. Therefore, opinionated, big mouthed asshole is the point of your rant. Find a purpose, or at least a hobby!

The whole point is that age doesn't matter. It never did, and it never should. Nor is LISTENING to a song (not writing one, not performing one, not producing one, engineering one, or otherwise being involved in the creation process) any sort of achievement worth touting. I'm no keeper of cultural wisdom, just an opinionated asshole with a big mouth and the will to use it.

I already know all of those!! But don't worry, I already do pass it on to my friends! My friends typically are all into the same kind of music anyways :)
