This is the very abbreviated story of our 'transit' from Isla Roatan in Honduras to Jamaica on our way to Haiti with doctors, volunteers, a SIFAT water purification systems representative, and a cargo of IV fluids and medicines for a string of clinics and CTCs (cholera Treatment Centers) along the north coast.

What was expected to be an 8-day direct transit from Isla Guanaja, east of Roatan, to Port Antonio on on Jamaica's NE coast for fuel and a night's sleep before the final 36 hours to Haiti, through a wide-open weather window, started out as the kind of crossing cruising dreams are made of but soon degenerated into a nightmare struggle against a stormy sea from out of nowhere and a dual engine failure from really dirty fuel we took on in Honduras.

That Southern Wind made it to sit safely in Kingston, Jamaica with all repairs completed in time for a narrow weather window to cross the ferocious Windward Passage to Haiti is a testament to the endurance, ingenuity, and dedication of our volunteers.

This video is for the men and women on Southern Wind who weather the storms and always rise to the challenge.
