Don't go messin' w/ "The KID". A definite team leader. His base hit in game 6 of the 1986 WS started one of the most improbable comebacks in WS history. He simply said, "I'm not making the last out" Say what you want, but "The KID" played hurt and hard all the time.

No, I was a die hard Mets fan as a child in the 1980's. however being a Mets hater IS a possibility when they turn Shea Stadium to dust at the conclusion of the 2008 campaign. but the truth is that Keith Hernandez went quietly in 10th inning on 10/25/86 putting the Mets on the brink of elimination, and if davey Johnson did not pull the plug on Ron Darling in the 4th inning of game 7, the red Sox wouldn't have had to wait till 2004 to brag about their first modern day title

Tell your kids that in the 1986 World Series Keith Hernandez of SNY was game 6 liability, and Ron Darling was a game 7 liability, so was World Series MVP Ray Knight until he delivered the crucial RBI in the 10th of G6. As Roger Clemens was praying for a Giants over Patriots style vomit hurling upset in the Red Sox favor, I was praying for MY METS. After Wally & Keith went down quietly, Gary Carter overcame his Mike Scott induced October malaise to start the comeback rally of a generation.

Even though it's tough to hear, this is pretty sweet. Carter is/was the man and the nucleus of this fantastic team!! Must have been nice to be there.
