@tomAfisher True, I would rather have see them be able to run than being on stactic display.

Great video, but why is there an Amtrak engine on the train. two 4-8-4s should be more than enough power.

@southernpacific4346 Most mainline runs on BNSF hauling passengers require they run as an Amtrak train, with an Amtrak diesel and crew. Insurance reasons, plus just in case of a breakdown. Steam engines are old.

@tomAfisher wait why? that makes no sense. Why do they "require" an amtrak diesel? cant they just say it is an amtrak train?

@ChrisisBass13 I don't know exactly what the rules say but one reason is they have to have it to provide electrical power to the coaches.

@tomAfisher Couldn't they just get electrical power from an small generator on one end of the front coaches? Seems to me that it would be easier to do that than put a diesel in the consist, unless the diesel is helping the steam engines. And steam engines may be old, but they're way tougher than a diesel in my opinion.

@Fireheart528 I agree, but Amtrak's rules say there has to be a diesel in the consist. Tons of trips before were run without a diesel, but for whatever reason that's the rule laid out by Amtrak. And if the groups running the trip don't comply, they don't go. Better to run with the diesel than not run at all, I guess.
