Question. If he is speaking Elvish, how does Eowyn know what he's saying? Are they suggesting she understands some Elvish? Or is he speaking Old English, as some have said? (If so, why does she say "You speak as one of their own,"?)

Because he's speaking old English and I'm assuming you speak a Germanic language, most likely Danish or Swedish, but it could even be German with what he said. Fæste, stille nu (Fast, be quiet now). Lac is drefed, gefrægon. (A battle is stirred up, they heard) Hwæt nemnað ðe? (What namest thou?) Ðin nama is cynglic (Thine name is kingly)
