Workshop: Filmmaking as Poetic Imagery with an intro to Final Cut Pro
Filmmaking as Poetic Imagery: Saturday June 12, Sunday June 13. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Final Cut Pro: Saturday, June 26. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

This Creative Workshop is broken up into three parts; Theory and Development, Production and Post Production. During the first phase of the workshop participants will bring a piece of prose, poetry or a very short story no longer than two pages. Through exercises and examples participants will learn to interpret words, develop poetic imagery and convey the idea/story through visual metaphors, text and camera movement.

At the end of this weekend all participants will be given three rolls of Super 8 film, a Super 8 camera and one week to shoot their story. The Super 8 film will then processed and professionally transferred to Mini DV. A date will be set when all participants and instructors can view the ʻRushesʼ.

So youʼve shot your film and it is time to begin editing with Final Cut Pro. The first day of the Final Cut Pro workshop will introduce participants to the theoretical and technical aspects of editing. Everything from the identification, cataloguing and synching rushes, to first assembly edit will be covered. The emphasis of the workshop will be editing for rhythm and tempo, scene construction, transitions and the overall look and feel of the film. The remaining two evening of the workshop will take place after participants have had a chance to begin their first edit, and will focus on one-on-one instruction between participants and the instructor.

Film, processing, video transfers, equipment rental and editing facilities are all included in the cost of the workshop. Participants should have some basic knowledge of Super 8 camera operation and lighting exposure.
