This is the duo version of "Winter Now is King". My wife Mary wrote these words, after hearing me practice the piece many times when I was first arranging it.
Winter Now Is King
White is snow upon the land.
Cold is starlight upon the stone.
Wild is sea upon the shore;
Winter now is king.
Daystar is far now.
Brief does its light shine
To brighten the dark.
Winter now is king.
Castles bright on hillside,
Cottages of thatch,
Each glow with firelight,
Peat smoke heralds night.
Forgotten is the springtime
As the flowers winter deep.
Hearth logs brighten dark hearts;
For Winter now is king.
Harpers tell in stories
of how spring birds gaily sing.
But long will be the Snow-queen's reign
For Winter now is king.
The music comes from an Irish harp tutor-book published in 1908, which belonged to my grandmother.
TECH DATA: Performed on a 2008 Kenny Hill guitar, Rodriguez model, 640mm. D'Addario J46 strings. Recorded on a Flip UltraHD video camera.
That's a great piece of poetry. I loved it.
