Here's probably one of the best military courtroom dramas ever made (yes, much better than "A Few Good Men" with Kevin Bacon). This is another Aussie film, set in turn-of-the-century South Africa during the 2nd Boer War, about 3 Australian officers indicted for murdering civilian Boers during the on-going guerilla war between the the Boers (Dutch/German settlers in S. Africa) and the Britsh Empire. This came out just 5 years after Vietnam, so the themes discussed would be very familiar to anyone that lived during that time. But honestly, after 6-7 years of occupying Afghanistan and Iraq, this movie is just as pertinent now as it ever has been.

Breaker Morant tells the story of the Court-Martial of Harry Morant, Peter Handcock, and George Witton. We start with Morant introducing himself, then we flashback to a night assault that ends up going very badly, particularly for the Bushveldt Carbineer's commander, Captain Hunt. Afterward, we see that Lt. Morant has taken it upon himself to avenge his death at the hands of the Boer guerillas. And then we cut back to the action leading up to the courtcase.

FYI, the "gun" angle for this film is the egrigious use of Lee Metford and German Mauser rifles. Enjoy!

  • The Reasons for this conflict between Related People,The British and the Boers,Is Purposefully obscured.I invite any one interested in this Conflict to Investigate the Reasons,The Personalities,The Forces,Hidden then as Now,Who have profited from our own inability to Ask Serious Questions before we go to war with each other,ie ,British,Irish,Dutch,German and French.Consider Reading an Essay by Mark Weber on the institute for Historical review Website,Entitled "The Boer war Remembered".

  • @MrMontrose1967 Is there any more hypocritical people than the English?

  • @Fox4Kerrang He was born in Ireland to the Acendency but he was most certainly not Irish. In fact he was anti Irish.

  • @MrMontrose1967 It’s ‘pompous’ not ‘pompas’ and ‘their’ not ‘there’ you cretinous little colonial.

  • @Hiraghm Good call.

  • @RManFlint - More like "Paths of Glory" with Kirk Douglas.
