This would have been a great version of this song if he hadn't messed with the lyrics. It's "Mary nodded" not "then He nodded." Cutting Mary out is stupid. It lessens the impact of the moment when the baby smiles at the end, and it's a misogynistic move to erase the woman from the story. Why change it? Why is it so threatening or offensive to have the mother nod, Bob? You weak-ass-fundie-cracker.

I am French and now an old lady and for ever this song reminds me of my childhood. In all languages I am very found of this song , now an international Christmas ballad ( in Spanish " el tamborilero" , in French " l'enfant au tambour " ) first from old slavish roots.
