GREATEST SPORTS LEGENDS was a syndicated sports series that profiled famous athletes. The shows are treasure troves of great footage, interviews, and stories. Enjoy this selected story about Ted Williams!
I never realized that his great 6 for 8 day to finish at .406 came on Sept 28; the same day as the one where he hit a home run in his final at bat. Sept 28, 1939; Greatness...Sept. 28, 1960; Legendary. I remember seeing the picture of him on the sports page the day after that home run, and my dad talking about it in awe. Dad wasn't awed by very many things, but he was that day. And I've been in awe of him ever since. What a man!

I knew he played the last day, but Wow! I didn't know the Splinter played a doubleheader. Just insane. I learn something new every day.
I would have just taken the .39955 and made it my ".400" average, but I'm not a Hall of Famer or a legend. Here's to you, Ted.
