  • I was amazed when I typed this title in and actually got this back. It has been 50 years since I've heard this tune. I used to have it on an old green (not black) 78 RPM Columbia record.

You certainly have the whole score there and sounds great. The only thing it seems my memory thinks there was a flute, violin, and perhaps a cello also accompanying.

Thank you very much for preserving this piece.

  • Thank you for your kind comments!

What a coincidence: I've been collecting 78 RPM records since I was 12 and this is also how I first got to know Ketèlbey's music. (Burgundy HMV records from the 1920s in my case, but I know the green Columbias you mention).

If you Google "london promenade orchestra ketelbey" you'll find an excellent CD with this music.

  • I don't have the original score; only this an arrangement for mandolin orchestra.

As you say, the original is for full string orchestra and several additional instruments.

Anyway, it's lovely music that we like to play on concerts from time to time.

    Glad you enjoyed it!

  • ¿Tiene la letra de la parte que canta el tenor? Gracias. ¡Muy bello arreglo!

  • Thank you for your comment! I'm sorry I don't speak Spanish ... I don't have the original score; only the arrangement for mandolin orchestra.

Grazie per il commento! Mi dispiace di non parlare Spagnolo ... non ho la musica originale; ho solo l'arrangiamento per estudiantina.

  • What a delightful interpretation of this hauntingly beautiful composition. The composer had a true gift for melody. Thank you for this video. Added to my list of FAVORITES.

  • A very original interpretation of this very kitsch music !

  • I think that it would be more fantastic if there is a conductor.

I'm sure the music will be richier than before, because of the confidence of expression.

    Of course you're the best ! (-:

  • I managed to pick up about sx of these pieces on Columbia 78s with Ketelbey conducting (or playing piano) for 20p at a market once.

  • "Oh maid of fairest Tresses, And eyes of soft caresses. Your glance is all beguiling And your eyes are always smiling. Let us go together Forever and Forever To some enchanted Isle A dark and mystic land."

The words to the magnificent melody in the middle. Have known and loved this composer since I was 2.

  • it looks like greek music

  • Great sound...and Ketelbey is one of my favorite composers. FIVE STARS!
