Shady Hollow in South Austin is one of a number of Central Texas gatherings in which Congressman Doggett celebrated our pride as Americans on the 4th of July. Even a welcome, if untimely, downpour did not dampen the patriotic mood. Congressman Doggett enjoyed a sing-a-long, a student reading of an inspirational poem, and an awards ceremony, with neighborhood leaders, Constable Richard McCain, and State Representative Valinda Bolton, at the parade's wet conclusion. "Today is a special time to reflect on the good fortune of living in Shady Hollow, in Austin, in Central Texas, in America—this land of liberty. Ours is a wonderful country for many reasons, but foremost among them is a commitment to freedom and an ability to adapt to new challenges by reinvigorating our society," said Rep. Doggett.
