Marc-André Hamelin plays one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's most famous pieces, the first movement of his Sonata in C, K545, as an encore. Usually, Mozart is not my favourite composer, but from somebody like Hamelin it's a different cup of tea. Beautiful playing.

  • By the way, which orchestra is this, when was the concert and what did MAH play with the orchestra? Thanks!

  • @sfsphil First of all, Merry Christmas :)) Secondly, this is Lahti Symphony Orchestra, led by Mark Wigglesworth. This concert was in 2009, and he played Beethoven's 3rd Concerto before this one. There is a nice interview clip on YouTube, check it out! /watch?v=aujw3cyh_dc

  • Thanks a million...Genius is when someone gifted can execute something well-worn, almost a cliché, into something fresh and new. Just look at the smiles in the attendance at the end of this piece. It's a full rediscovery for all of us!

  • @madlovba3 Thank you for the information :) And I truly hope that you had a very lovely Christmas and that your New Year is filled with joy and wonder!
