One of the most common situations I have with motorist are right hooks. Here is yet another example. I have discovered that by filming my rides I am better able to make desitions when these situations present themselves. I am not a vehicular cyclist. I am a situational bicyclist. I try to do whatever is safest and feels right at the time. In general I yield to faster traffic weither it is a bicycle or a motor vehicle. However, there are times when vehicular cycling principles can be useful. One of my problems with the League of American Bicyclist is their safety education does not include "HOW TO" make safety desitions. I know some vehiclular cyclist who do not believe in or use mirrors because what is going on behind them is irrelevant. Some vehicular cycling radicals do not believe in using bike lanes.

  • Whatever works best for your safety... Don't be killed by an idiot ...

  • Safe - I would say yes, mainly because you have the defence of the car in front of you also turning right.

Obviously doesn't mean you couldn't get crushed, but hopefull you + car turning right will make whoever is following take more notice.

  • the thing about bicycling in traffic is there does not seem to be any absolutes. you try to follow the law as best you can but if you need to save yourself from becoming street pizza by disobeying traffic laws, well, call me johnny law breaker.
