Kevin Liles Says Trey Songz' BET Tribute Was Prince Approved

SoulCulture TV caught up with former Executive Vice President of Warner Music Group Kevin Liles in Paris last week.

In the first snippet of our interview, the former President of Def Jam -- and Trey Songz' current manager -- talks about how Trey Songz' mini tribute to Prince at the BET Awards came about, in which "Yo Side Of The Bed" morphed into "Purple Rain" in the artist's honour.

"The song was inspired by Prince," he reveals, "so it's funny that on the actual show were doing a tribute to Prince but Trey, because he was already performing, wasn't a part of the tribute -- but we put him right before the tribute."

that was a bad suggestion for a pre-tribute. . . they ended up singing purple rain twice. regardless if prince approved it--which he looked like he didn''t care for it--it was wack. nice going there, russell simmons jr.

Even if Prince did say ok.The side eye and wtf facial expressions by his purple highness meant Trey Wrongz needed to be smacked.

I love Trey and his songs but that performance was not his best moment on the stage. I think he should of did it his way and not try to perform like Prince. And I agree with 21bbc Prince didn't look like he care for it, If anybody watch it again they will see when the camara is on Prince he is looking at Trey real crazy and not smiling as if what is this. Love me some Trey but will always keep it real :)

@Kenuwine24 LOL that's because VIBRATO is actually a REAL music TERM! Look it up! And of course, I have a lot to say when I argue with anyone. A few words mean that your ideology and counter-thoughts are minut; that's not me! Good thing there's a limit of words on here; I would've laid a BOOK of info about these industry puppets vs. Pitch, control, accuracy, range, ETC.
