I was 4 or 5 (now nearly 56) when this killer hit came out and spread like gangrene beyond the borders of the Joburg black townships to remain an audio staple well into the 70s! Lemmy's kwela (along with that of contemporary greats like Spokes Mashiyane, the Lerole brothers, et al.) was to inspire a whole generation of aspiring musicians, including me, when, sadly, Hohner (the sole maker of the pennywhistle) quit production because the main market was the cash-strung black folks of South Africa!
