This song is based on a statue at Boys Town. Boys town is a village surrounded by the City of Omaha, Nebraska The village is home to a one-time orphanage, now a home for troubled youth, founded in 1917 by a Roman Catholic priest named Father Edward J. Flanagan. At the main entrance to this institution is a statue of an male adolescent carrying a younger boy on his back. On the base of the statue is a placque reading in part "...He ain't heavy, Father . . . he's m' brother"

One of the all time great pop songs, lyrical and yet so powerfully inspirational.

Nobody has brothers anymore. Too much fear about what might happen.

Positive, uplifting music like this is what created so much optimism in the 60's and early 70's. Thank you for posting. Thank you, Allan, Tony, Terry, Bernie and Bobby for ALL of your excellent musical contributions over the last few decades. PEACE & LOVE TO ALL.
