I would like to hear a report on successful survival of these nucs in april. I'm doing a similar nuc wintering project. Mid to end of july mated local queens here in iowa.

@TheOhioCountryboy Love it! Excellent idea!

I'm new to bees so this information is great for me. Nice starter information. Hope you will continue this one, and show what else goes in it, and how to do it like this one. Seeing it, is so much better than reading book after book about it. Thank you for the video!

I purchased one of these recently! If one wanted to feed their bees in these, do you have any thoughts as to how this could be accomplished in the winter? There is so little space between the lid and the frames that I'm not sure what the solution would be. Thoughts?

@trustyshopper Pour 1-2 quarts of thick syrup into the nuc. Screen the entrance and vent holes and bring the nuc indoors where it is warm enough for the bees to break cluster and suck up the syrup from the bottom of the nuc.

Do you plan on wintering bees in these? If so, how many frames of bees do you plan on having in each box and how many frames of honey and pollen?

@trustyshopper Yes, I will be overwintering bees in these. I like 3-4 frames of bees, and the box and honey and everything should ideally weigh 27-30 pounds going into winter.

Do you cover up the vent hole if you're having them winter in the nuc?

@wealthofnations4RP No. If the bees want it closed they can close it with propolis. A little ventilation to get rid of excess moisture is beneficial.
