In Lesotho, trees occupy less than one per cent of Lesotho's total land area. The historical record of forestry activities indicates that most Basotho (native name of the Sotho people) have never understood the significant need for forestry development in Lesotho. But forestry proves to be a viable and sustainable source of livelihood and poverty alleviation strategy for a variety of Basotho living in urban, peri-urban and rural areas.
Trees are a source of life and examples could also be listed on the value of non-wood forest products such as fodder plants, fruits, medical plants, ornamentals, wildlife and honey. SEFATE KE MORUO OA BOPHELO is a video aimed at promoting tree planting and raising awareness on potential of forestry to contribute towards improved livelihoods in Lesotho.
