http://www.ntv.co.ke Victims of a fire that swept through Faza Island in Lamu are recuperating in hospital as the government moved in to help at least 2,500 people whose houses were destroyed in the fire. The government and the Kenya red cross society donated food and non food items to the affected residents. A Faza Fire Disaster Reconstruction Fund has now been launched.

  • Replacing makuti with iron sheets is not prudent. The iron sheets will make those houses hot as ovens during the day. Best option is to look into ways of making the makuti roofs, fireproof...maybe applying a thin cover of limestone(whitewash)?

  • This is very sad. How can they be allowed to cram like this when makuti is the way of life?

  • Plan for Roads! Space the Houses!
