This is a series of gameplay vids I'm doing highlighting overlooked games for the PS2.

Overshadowed by the GTA series, the True Crime series seems at first like a second rate ripoff.

Though I've only kinda played the original (Streets of L.A.), and wasn't too impressed with it, I decided to take a $10 chance with this one, and was pleasantly surprised.

Unlike the way I play GTA, I've found myself not going on huge murderous rampage sprees. In fact, I find that I like doing the random police calls in this game, and it makes up for not killing everything I see.

I used to think that playing from a cop's perspective would cripple the fun, but I really enjoy the way this game makes being a cop seem like more than a title. You'll constantly have the ability to respond to a variety of emergency calls (or you can just ignore them and play the missions), or even shake down random people on the street. Throughout the game you'll gain police levels in an almost RPG kind of way which unlocks new weapons, and new vehicles, and etc.

The combat system is also more in depth than GTA's, and the dual stick control is a godsend.

The game isn't perfect though. Even though it's graphics are amazing for a PS2 game of this type, the game does have a lot of technical issues. There a lot of glitches in this game. Some even lead to freezups, and other weird glitches. My best advice is to save often.

Though I'd say that GTA is better, True Crime New York City is still a great game for those who want to get into it.

True Crime: New York City is also available on the Xbox, Gamecube, and PC.

  • its very good on pc with the right controller that is to many keys to memorize for one game but the graphics are very superior .

  • @chunkmanshaun The PC version always have superior graphics in pretty much game that's released on both the consoles and the PC.

  • I'll dissagree on this one... I got bored with True Crime 2.

  • @BillyCauseyjr I really enjoyed it for some reason. I guess I liked the ability to be just as big of an ***hole to the NPC's in the game as you are in GTA, but without the killing. I like harassing random people on the streets. The story mode was pretty short though, but the aiming and fighting systems were a lot better than GTA's.

  • @roygib09 *smile* Search it on google or youtube. <3 and youwelcome. :D

  • @SONGOKU02 oh i didnt know anything about the debug mode

  • @roygib09 and thats the fun of it.. you can put the debug mode on it ... And can do whatever you want... even go to every roof n stuff.

  • this game isnt underrated, it just sucks, glitches out of the ass

  • For all it's faults this game had something. It's good enough that you try and play it even with all the bugs until it just crashes on you.

  • It looked decent at the time. The big criticism that I remember was that it had a lot of bugs.

It's too bad about the new True Crime. I was looking forward to it before it got cancelled. I think it's a worthy series that just needs to be brought up to speed.

  • Looks pretty fun if you're into this type of game.

  • Christopher WALKEN!!!
