Call me deaf but I think her coloratura is fine, especially for the size of her voice. There are many lighter voices that have much worse coloratura. Actually I think she had a natural ability to sing perfect coloratura but was never trained to sing it. You could view her as almost a reverse Sutherland (although Nilsson's voice is bigger). I could totally have seen Sutherland doing Wagner (she trained as a dramatic soprano) and Nilsson going into bel canto (with the right training of course).

LOL! Poor thing she can only scream out the coloratura, can't sing it! Verdi must be right now in heaven telling her that how dare she butcher his work.

she is everything this role should be -- where can I get a copy??

@Turand0t Damn you said it right on! Nilsson knew that se always wasn't nice to verdi and mozart, but they were to her! Thanks to that, she could look back on a carrer as the worlds greatest lyric dramatic soprano, setting the unbeatable standards in Wagner, Strauss and some italian roles as well. No one has been better as Turandot. No ones has her power and height in the role as the Lady, and a newspaper said after her Aida: " It's very simple to understand why she's the best in the world"

Shilrley Verrett for me every time

No soporto la voz fija y liviana de esta gorda insoportable!

Well, you have Edda Moser for Donna Anna.
I love Nilsson as Lady Macbeth....she has a steely grand voice and sounds fierce & cold...as for beauty that was never what Verdi wanted for the role he wanted a gritty ugly dark insane voice...nilsson and Callas do great as Lady M
