The massacre of 34 journalists in the Philippines last November shocked the world. As elections approach, this report investigates what happened that day; why has so little light been shed on the killings?
Warlord Lola Ampatuan stands accused of masterminding the massacre of 34 journalists, killed for reporting on an election candidacy. Yet, once so close to the president that they were nicknamed her pet monsters, the Ampatuan family were heavily armed by the government - pay-off for securing Arroyo 99% of the votes at the last election. We have to begin to look forward to a society where armed rebellion is no longer acceptable as a means of achieving political change, says defence secretary Norbero Gonzales. For now, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front hasnt taken advantage of the breakdown between the government and the Ampatuans. But like the army, the separatists are keeping their weapons loaded while peace talks proceed. "We still have our guns in our hands, says MILF leader Jafaar.

@chaniey01 "we can speak english fluently" No, we can't. For most, it's not the 2nd but 3rd language. Upperclass tagalog ignorance is annoying. Accent aside, most people in the Philippines can't speak English fluently & have severe orthographic & grammatical errors when using it. Sometimes making it impossible to understand them. Try it, go to a squatter & use English.

As a nation we should set our standards on the smallest common denominator & put the weakest in the center of attention

Pretty stupid of the reporters to roll up to a hostile gangs turf! A reporter must first realize that they are committed to the truth, secondly the must realize that there are opponents of the truth and rolling into a gangs turf to deliver what could be aid and traction to a rival is a very dangerous move. Would have been wiser to go in low key as small numbers, not rolling up as a circus
