Please report all sawfish sightings to: http://research.myfwc.com/
Don & Brenda kayak into the 10,000 Islands over Labor Day weekend, and come across a mating trio of spotted eagle rays, and a sawfish. There is more footage, which I will up-load in part 2.

  • how many sawfish there?

  • Hi Julia - sorry to be late in responding. There was only one sawfish - it kept cruising back and forth close to the beach.

  • Very cool Don! I spend a lot of time in Tampa Bay and have never seen a sawfish. They're so much more abundant from Charlotte Harbor to Florida Bay, but you're very lucky to have seen one and for so long!

Are you sure the object on the dorsal fin isn't a tag? There is a lot of effort in tracking sawfish. Often the tag gets covered in algae.

  • That would be my guess. If they were tags, they appeared to be the kind that look like a piece of weedeater line - very thick monofilament.
