Recent court decisions and events have launched a national discussion about extending the right to marry to same sex couples. In this provocative panel, advocates and critics of gay marriage debate which laws should be considered in deciding the legality of this contentious issue. • @GaysDominicanos we need a monarch over the world again so marriages can be pick by the parents only

  • @esj8341 Well, that's exactly right. You see, so we will then agree that you HAVE THE RIGHT TO PURSUE marriage, but not TO ACTUALLY GUARANTEE MARRIAGE!!! In other words you may propose to your fiancée (a right to pursue marriage) but not order them to marry you (right to marriage)

P.S. The supreme court held that Dred Scott could not file a lawsuit, because he was not a human being, based on an immutable attribute of birth (black skin). We all know that those guys could be looney sometimes :)

  • @dux16

To be clear the Supreme Court held that Marriage is a fundamental right. See Loving v. Virginia. Of course, however, having the freedom to marry does not give the freedom to coerce another person into marriage.

  • @esj8341 Furthermore, you have no right to other people's services, freedom, free will, neither may you force someone to do something against their will. Marriage is a privilege just like driving, money, house, food, cell phone, health care, and so forth.

  • @esj8341 If marriage is a right, then does that mean that I get to pick any beautiful woman and then tell her that I have a right to marry her? What if she does not want to marry me? Does her opinion matter? You have NO RIGHT to force another person to obey you. If you notice all our natural rights talked about in the constitution do not infringe upon other people's rights. A right to life, liberty, and property among others don't violate other people's rights.
