  • Hi, nice tutorial. One question: when you talk about the "most important" Bm6 chord....OK since you cited the other chords based on what they'd be withOUT the capo, I assume you also cited Bm6 based on no capo...which would be (low to high) E-B-F#-G-D-E. I'm pretty sure that's not a Bm6. And the notes that actually ring WITH the capo are G-D-A-Bb-F-G, which isn't a Bm6 either. Just trying to understand what that chord really is...please help?

  • @jimclip2012 Hi Jim - the notes in the chord (assuming no capo) are B, F#, D & G so the chord is actually a Bm6 with flattened 6th, but I refer to it as a Bm6 for simplicity. The chord "spelling" of a pure Bm6 is: 1st (B), b3rd (D), 5th (F#) & 6th (G#) - hope that helps!

  • @Lowdenjim Thanks, the flat 6th did throw me off. However, when you first introduce the chord you play the low E, which introduces an E note into the Bm flat 6 chord, so that adds another wrinkle. It sounds really nice with the low E, so wouldn't that be (no capo) Em9 flat6 ?? (7th is implied, and E is the 9th). Not criticizing, just learning theory and am curious. But in the song since you only add the E string sporadically on top of the Bmflat6, perhaps it's better to express it as Bm flat 6.

  • @jimclip2012 I take your point Jim - I also think it sounds good if played across all strings. However, the 1st and 6th strings aren't played in Dylan's recording and I based the tutorials on the way it was actually played, without top and bottom strings. I named the chord according to its use in the tutorial and the original song, and not as I played in in the introduction. I try not to get hung up on technical chord names as it might muddy the waters for learners.

  • Just found your channel Jim . . looks like you've put a lot of time and effort into it all. Well done. Hardly recognised that posh voice of yours though !
