We let prison guard and DA unions lobby for minimum sentencing laws usurping the judicial branch entirely thereby creating the need for more prisons; prisons that cost more per foot than casinos to build and are run by for profit corporations. Over half of all federal arrests are for non-violent drug offenses. We tear families apart, communities apart, entire minority demographics apart... For what? To create an annuity to support the criminal justice system. When will the insanity end?

Extremely well put. The problem isn't collective ignorance, it's collective motivation. All the knowledge in the world doesn't do any real good unless it's put into action, and far too many of us sit on our asses thinking "it's the thought that counts".

Part of what got us here in the first place was letting people make their OPINION into a LAW. Conservatives, liberals, republicans, democrats. We need to drop this gang mentality and act on a case-by-case basis if we're expect to go forward.
