We let prison guard and DA unions lobby for minimum sentencing laws usurping the judicial branch entirely thereby creating the need for more prisons; prisons that cost more per foot than casinos to build and are run by for profit corporations. Over half of all federal arrests are for non-violent drug offenses. We tear families apart, communities apart, entire minority demographics apart... For what?
