13WHAM News this Morning shares a sample of the activities and exhibits planned for Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival taking place at Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday, May 2, 2009.

Anchors: Tomorrow from 10 to 5, you can head to RIT for a really neat festival. It's called Imagine RIT, and Doug Emblidge joins us with a preview now.
Doug: This is a very big deal. Imagine RIT tomorrow might have 25,000 people on campus. You are welcome to come. It's free and there's parking on campus and shuttle service from MCC from 10 to 5 tomorrow. We've got some of the Imagineers here with us today including Laura and Kate and Professor Paul Rosenberg over here, and they're all chemistry people, and we're having fun with chemistry this morning, what are we doing?
Laura: We're making ice cream using liquid nitrogen.
Doug: Which is what we do at home all of the time.
Laura: Of course. This is how it starts out as, just cream and milk.
Doug: Oooh, there we go, there's the liquid nitrogen going in, look at that. That's like something out of mystery theater. How about that? And you stir it up, how long does it take?
Laura: Two or three minutes.
Doug: Looking forward to having this on display tomorrow?
Paul: We certainly are. We're actually calling it 'Making Ice Cream Using a Boiling Liquid' because when we use liquid nitrogen it's very, very cold and it's boiling at room temperature and it freezes the ice cream very, very quickly and you get a really high quality ice cream.
Doug: Plus it's really cool to watch.
Paul: You better believe it.
Doug: A lot of fun, a lot of eye candy there. Okay, we're going to check back on the ice cream process in just a second but I want to meet these guys who are making...what the heck is going on? This is the Etch-a-Sketch photo booth and this is Brian and Dave. Brian, tell me what's going on.
Brian: We're taking picture from the camera on the computer...
Doug: Let's move around so that Terry can see what you're making there. Okay, there you go. And then what happens?
Brian: And then we're converting it into a picture like this, which is then drawn on the actual Etch-a-Sketch.
Doug: So the computer is communicating the photographic image to the Etch-a-Sketch and the Etch-a-Sketch is going to make an image based on what the computer does.
Brian: Correct.
Doug: Oh my gosh. So tomorrow when folks come, I know you're still working out some bugs, but tomorrow they can come and have their pictures taken and then see it on the Etch-a-Sketch.
Dave: Yeah, that's the whole idea.
Doug: And you said there were like some 100 different principles at work here that you were dealing with.
Brian: Yes, the Etch-a-Sketch is a very intricate pulling system, and with that comes a lot of uncertainties. Most people who would attempt this project would make it closed loop by adding a camera and try to track the cursor but...
Doug: Brian, you're already over my head. You're doing a great job, I know you've been up all night trying to work on it. Thank you guys. Good luck tomorrow at Imagine RIT, now back to the ice cream. And here is the finished product and what flavor would this be.
Laura: This is vanilla, but tomorrow we'll have vanilla and chocolate.
Doug: Again made with liquid nitrogen, which is the freezing component, right?
Laura: Yep.
Doug: Imagine, if you will, how delicious is this vanilla ice cream is. Imagine RIT tomorrow from 10 to 5 here on campus, and you can try the ice cream, and you can try the Etch-a-Sketch booth, and coming up in just a moment, we're going to use a bicycle-powered blender to make smoothies on CW-16.
