I used to work for a company that capped some of those wells outside Bakersfield. It isn't that there's no oil down there. It's how costly it is to get the oil out. If it's not economic to turn the spigot on then that oil will just sit there until the end of time. It's not about "belief." It's about facts. Raw data. I've spent many hundreds and hundreds of hours logging wells. I know what's down there, and it aint America's energy future. That's not a belief. It's a geological fact.

@DoNotCiv I guess time will tell, won't it.? Something else to ponder. I can't count how many stories I've read, about various petroleum engineers who talk about all the capped wells in the US. I'm sure all of these don't add up to a Saudia Arabia, but there are enough reports out there from the actual people who work in the industry, that I believe there is a significant ammount in the US that isn't being tapped. Again, you can believe whatever you like. I"ve heard from both sides.

Google "Alaska north slope oil production" and go to images and pull up a production log for the last 30 years. How long did that take? 30 seconds. You've "done the research?" My ass. @DoNotCiv I have done the research. The oil companies are following their plans, that they have had for years, to a "t". Use up the oil in Saudia Arabia, and the rest of the mid east. Then , when those reserves are used up, open up the reserves in the states, including the massive untapped reserves in the Alaskan fields. I guess it depends on whose research you believe. You have another set of "facts" you believe. That's ok. Believe what you want.
