Megalepisma castor, a huge cousin of the silverfish. This creature stalks the dumpsters of Corvallis, eating rotten household waste, gnawing on eggshells and yogurt cups, and licking the grease spots on pizza boxes. It is a carrier of a number of diseases, chiefly Leptospirosis. Because they are immune to fire, the city exterminators must resort to liquid nitrogen, which they blast into the dumpsters with super-soakers. The only positive aspect of their presence in the city is that the Norway Rat (Rattus norvegicus) has been virtually eliminated, as the firebrats outcompete them for almost every resource. The clever reader will by now have realized that this animal is actually something completely other than Megalepisma castor. In fact this is an unidentified member of the family Lepismatidae, which also includes firebrats and silverfish. So far this animal has no common name, and I humbly propose immediate ratification of the name Corvallis Giant Firebrat. The true size is 18mm, and they do not carry any diseases transmissable to humans. Thank you for reading my description.

  • Arlo, are you an entomologist? Just curious, as I've always wanted to be one since I was a child, but alas, the process is rather costly, and I'm not the best student..

  • @Ijustwanttolisteable I'm a zoologist, and mostly self-taught. You don't need any costly processes if you like to learn - get some books!

  • lyrics please?
