  • Actually that's one type of bench press technique they do use in powerlifting competitions. I've done it competing and they don't take points off for it.

  • I don't compete, but I use powerlifting bench style to protect my shoulders. It hurts my lower back for days after benching with a huge arch like that, so I only arch as much as I can without pain, it's pointless to have a huge arch if it hurts your back and you don't even compete. Bodybuilding bench style is great to emphasis the chest if your shoulders can handle it. Powerlifting bench style really saves the shoulders. They both have its place.

  • Bodybuilders who do no reading on strength and power have no idea that when your butt comes off the bench like in the video that you are only squeezing the glutes and you are not using the lower back. The human has a natural lordodic curve so your back is never flat to be technical. Would you keep your back flat and not arched when you do a squat or deadlift?? Bodybuilders with no knowledge make me laugh. It's great to see all the juiceheads who struggle with real compound lifts.
