King Sancherib of Assyria has launched a military campaign to the coasts of Mediterranean, aiming the conquest of Judea under king Hezekiah. While devastating the country and taking important fortresses, the Assyrian army failed in taking Hezekiah's capital of Jerusalem. A detailed description of this event exists in the Hebrew Bible and the Assyrian Nineveh library. Several important archeological sights also tell the story of this event, such as the ruins of Lachish fortress (central Israel), and the Hezekiah shaft engineering marvel under Jerusalem walls.
