Design It Shelter Competition. The Guggenheim Museum and Google SketchUp. The Whalebone Shelter is located at Hofsvik, Kjalarnes on the western coast of Iceland. The building material consists of drift wood, soil, stones and the bones of whales which die of natural causes and drift at the shore of Iceland. All the mentioned materials where used for centuries in Iceland and often the only available source in the construction of buildings. In the design harmony with nature and the use of natural and locally available material is practiced. Designed by Pall Heimir Palsson.
