Palatka is an historic railroad and resort town located by a number of attractive lakes northern Florida. For a while, it was the railhead of the Atlantic Coast Line, on its push south at the end of the 19th century. For a period, it was also the site of a Japanese agricultural plantation, as was Boca Raton at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, Amtrak stops here (it is the city closest to coastal Saint Augustine), although the AutoTrain passes through on its way between Sanford, Florida and Lorton, Virginia. Views of the AutoTrain and other Amtrak trains passing through Palatka from the station perspective are already available; here, you see the AutoTrain passing through Palatka from the perspective of the passengers on August 23, 2009.

Finally someone who realizes this station's purpose, it's 30 minute proximity to St. Augustine. Everyone always assumes Jacksonville is closer, but it's not and it's a much more difficult drive from there.
