The Journeymen are John Phillips, Scott McKenzie and Dick Weissman. Their version of "500 Miles" went nowhere. It was first popularized in France by Richard Anthony "J'entends siffler le train". It has been covered many times, Peter, Paul & Mary...
The song has been composed by Hedy West. It's available in YT. It seems she recorded her song later than the Journeymen unless it was released on an obscure single.
"Accompanying Herself on the 5-String Banjo" the Hedy West including "500 miles" has been released in 1963 on Vanguard VRS-9124. Though the Original version recorded must be back to the Journeymen.

I agree that this is a good version. But Peter, Paul, and Mary did the best one. I really don't think there is much doubt about that.

I like Bobby Bare's interpretation much more. Nothing compares to his.

You are wrong. Bobby Bare is insipid and singing mainstream country music. Nothing can compete the original version here.

I'm back listening to Scott again. He left us on Saturday...in memory of Scott McKenzie January 10, 1939 - August 18, 2012. Thanks for the music and memories Scott.

Not heard this before; Scott McKenzie's voice very recognisable. Richard Anthony's 1962 French version followed it pretty closely, but with a nice keyboard interlude and better lyrics.

Never mind if a song is gay or not. I don't care about it. A song is good or bad, that's all.
