The Burning of Zozobra 2007

Zozobra, or 'Old Man Gloom', is burned at the stake on September 6th, 2007 in Santa Fe, NM. Guinness World Records classified the 49- foot puppet as the 'World's Largest Marionette'.

Zozobra tonight! It's a great kick-off to Fiestas in Santa Fe! It's a tradition from the 1920s that adds to the oldest American community celebration that dates from the early 1700s. I'm a native of Santa Fe and I admit Zozobra looks a bit crazy but learn about its history and the story behind it before you spout negative comments.

yeah, ignorant people that have no idea about our culture and traditions (relatively new, but still tradition) need to refrain from commenting on something they really don't know. It's not Satanic, its a New Mexican tradition, Zozobra is Old Man Gloom, and New Mexican put their problems in him. Divorce papers, Bankrupcy forms... and its a huge bonfire to represent good luck and a new beginning. :) Its supposed to be creepy because Old Man Gloom represents all of the problems have. I am Christian and I go to it for the food, fireworks, fire dancers and art. ALSO: The proceeds are donated to charity.
