BBC Documentary on Rebetika Part 1

Yah, it does sound like the southern blues, especially from New Orleans.

He doesnt say it sounds like the blues! He says that both blues and rembetika where made by the lower social classes that found their self on the outskirts of respectable society. Also that their music reflects their harsness and pain of living on the outside.
