Injuries and Illnesses: A Jonas Family Story~Chapter 14

recap: Lexi is unconsious, Joe is still sick, everyone else is not at home.

Joes POV
The ambulance arrived and took Lexi away. She was still breating, so I knew she wasn't dead, but I was still worried. Sure I was sick also, but not that sick. Andee took me to the hospital with her because she did not trust me at home. Im not sure why though! The entire way to the hospital the car ride was silent except for our sobbs. We didn't talk at all. We were too worried.

When we finally arrived at the hospital, Andee sat me in a chair and went up to the secretary desk to see if Lexi had a room yet.

"Alexis Jonas." Andee said.
"Ah, alright. She is not yet in a room, but she is being tested. Just sit tight and we will send a doctor out when we are done all the tests." the secretary said. Andee nodded somberly and sat down next to me.

We waited what seemed to be hours until a doctor finally came out. We actually waited so long that now the enitre family was here. Well mom and dad were already here cause this is where they work, but everyone else was here now also. The doctor emerged from the double doors and called out Lexi's name.

"Alexis Jonas?" the doctor said, and we all stood up.
"Alright. Follow me," he said, leading us into a small office. Everyone except mom and dad were asked to wait in the hall.
"Mr. and Mrs Jonas, I am sorry to inform you that you're daughter Alexis has been diagnosed with Type One Diabetes, also known as Insulin Dependent or Juvenile Diabetes. She has to be on an insulin pump to give her the correct amount of insulin for what she eats. We have already taught her how to check her blood sugar and count her carb intake, but she might struggle with it a bit in the beginning." the doctor explained.
"My poor baby girl!" Mom cried.
"Its alright honey. She's a strong girl," Dad reassured.
"Alexis is in room 6890 if you would like to go see her." the doctor stated.

Mom and Dad came back out and told us what was wrong with Lexi. We were all depressed and most of us were crying, but we tried to stay strong as we walked into Lexi's room. Lexi was sitting in bed, a smile plastered on her face. Lexi always smiled, even in the worst of siuations. She was a fabulous person to have around.

"Hi everybody! I missed you all!" Lexi exclaimed.
"Oh my goodness! My baby!" Mom exclaimed, giving Lexi a big hug.
"Mom, can't breath!" Lexi choked out.
"Im sorry sweety. I was just so worried!" Mom cried
"Lexi, are you gunna die?" Nick asked, worried.
"No Nicky. Im not gunna die. I just have to watch what I eat and take special medicine everyday," I answered.
"Oh..." Nick sighed.
"Its alright buddy. Im still gunna be the same Lexi!" I hugged him, and Dani, Kevin and I joined the hug also.
"Im hungry," I complained. "IM HUNGRY!! IM HUNGRY!!" Joe shouted, excited. Everyone was so confused why Joe was so happy that he was hungry.
"Um...Joe? Why is that such a good thing?" Dani questioned me.
"I got my appetite back! Im actually getting better!" I said, still excited.
"Well, when do I get out of here?" Lexi asked.
"Tomorrow honey. The doctors have to watch you're blood sugar levels overnight." Mom explained.
"Oh..." I sighed.
"Well Its getting late Lexi. We have to be getting home, but we'll come visit you and take you home tomorrow," Dad said.
"Oh alright," Lexi said.

We left the hospital and loaded in the cars. When we finally got home after stopping for dinner, it was almost eleven. We all got our PJs on and went to bed. Tomorrow I had to go back to school...

How will Joe do in school?
