  • He's Finnish, not Russian!

  • A Karl Marx 'double'.What a voice-such sadness that he died so young. He must have been incredible on stage at 6 foot 9 inches tall.He was Wotan and Boris...thanks for this upload-it's a little treasure.

  • fantastic, Thanks

  • Martti never did Wotan and yes,he was still finnish, very short before the winter war!

  • Yes, but Boris Christoff....

  • Grazie..bellissimo!!!

    Roberto.

  • @BorisGodunov and he did Hunding as well, with Karajan

  • That's true, he didn't sing Wotan but he sang Fasolt, Hunding, Fafner and Hagen. And he was 6'7" but I'd guess that was without shoes;) ...and on stage he was absolutely riveting.

  • @vickersman I don't think Talvela ever sang Wotan... do you have any information on that? He's definitely more of a Fafner, Fasolt and Hagen.

  • Magnificent!
