How to plot an iPhone Users location overtime.
If you have issues or you would like more accurate maps try this method: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFkuo6sk6zM
Theoretical Applications
You could find your partners location on any given day.
Find out where you were at a specific time.
Law enforcement could use this data for evidence or the data could be used to acquit someone.
Data could be harvested and uploaded to apple for marketing purposes or to identify new markets. They could merge iTunes account data with this data as well.
Data could be sold to others.
The file is called consolidated.db and it is in the /private/var/root/Library/Caches/locationd/ directory.
You can access this file and open it up with a SQL app such as MySQLite: http://www.sqlite.org/
Further analysis could be done via GIS software and even Excel.
Well done Alasdair Allan and Pete Warden for bringing this application and attention to this issue.
If the map doesn't display anything that means you will need to create an iphone backup through itunes. It will be stored in a folder inside /Users/your user name/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backups/
To protect yourself make sure that you tick the encrypt backup options in iTunes. Also if you have iOS lesser than 4.0 you are safe. This is a recent inclusion.

If you see a map with no points update Adobe Flash: http://www.adobe.com/support/flash/downloads.html
I think apple does have some questions to answer in this. I cannot believe that this data is not encrypted. It violates some laws id imagine.
The only way to fully disable the function is to Jailbreak your phone and download a free iPhone app called Untrackerd. Jailbreaking your iPhone is not a perfect science and can effect performance and security. If you are not comfortable with jailbreaking your phone you can add an extra layer of security to your device by following these steps:
Plug your iPhone or iPad into your computer and open iTunes if it doesn't automatically open. Select your device from the iTunes menu the device's main menu will open to the right. Scroll to bottom of options. Click the button that says "Encrypt iPhone (or iPad) Backup". Enter password
This way if your device falls into the wrong hands they will have an extra layer of security to go through before accessing your past location data. Source: http://www.wgntv.com/entertainment/viral/wgntv-how-to-disable-your-iphone-loc...

@shmuckseason you can use iphonetrackerwin (and a few others going around, I haven't tested any though or if it is safe) or try my alternative method in one of my other videos which is very PC and Mac friendly

@ahhpepsixp created a workaround, will upload it to my youtube in a few hours. As long as you have the consolidated.db file you should be able to extract some data and stick it on a map :)
AdrianWoolley85 10 months ago
@AdrianWoolley85 that might be fixed with an adobe flash update
