In 1979, the Sandinistas won a popular revolution in Nicaragua, putting an end to decades of the corrupt US-backed Somoza dictatorship. They based their reformist ideology on that of the English Co-operative Movement, but was to prove too 'radical' for the Reagan administration.
In this film, Pilger describes the achievements of the Sandinistas and their "threat of a good example".

American People? Is the rest not good enough to be Americans? The so-called Americans are wannabe Americans with an European heritage. Their the guests that haven't really cleaned their shoes of mud and shit, and now the mud and shit is so common that people are used to it and don't think about it, maybe they secretly like the odors of shit. ;-P

Instead of blaming leaders, one might be better off looking deep into the mirror.

  • @Yaveyta

Also when he is pronouncing Granada he is saying it as if there was an "e" in the word.

  • @GabbyF19

yeah he keeps saying a strong english "g"

instead of the softer spanish "gu"

  • Man the guy can't pronounce Nicaragua right : / Also this is probably the most I'll learn about my country...

  • On behalf of the American people we are sorry. Most of us do not realize that our political leaders are pieces of shit.

  • because america is not as great as many think when your a minority it sucks at least in nicaragua it simple living here there are to many complications unless your rich and upper class next to that we deal with the history that our presidents have left the Latin americas bruised. They say they try to fix countries but they really want it to be part of US imperialism for the US own gain becuase the US has nothing so they leech off poorer countries

  • The US has done bad to latin america witht Che, Castro, Sandino, and didnt give a damn on what happened in Mexico and that was their america. I was born in America but come from a sandinista family. I have no problem with Somozas dictatorship but i have a problem that it was in the US favor. the new government has flaws yes but did they fix what Somoza had left somewhat. I believe that people should except what happend in Nicaragua and live with it if you dont like living there ill trade you

  • @carlosnica The US did NOT try to take control of Nicaragua, it wanted to talk FULL control of this whole continent and apparently it did. I'm happy that Latin America is finally opening their eyes and are saying FUCK YOU to the US goverment. Love this country and it's people, but can't stand how the government has taken advantage of Latin America for hundreds of years. VIVA LATINOAMERICA UNIDA!!!!

  • @what1111000

I agree with you, I am sick of those Americans who hate Reagan (or bush or Republicans in general) but give democrats a free pass on all their war crimes which are no better, no different than Republicans, only the rhetoric is different, the terrorism is the same!
