This "interpretation' is horrid, there are obvious problems with intonation. Verrett did do well in some dramatic soprano roles (a perfect Lady Macbeth), but she is definetly out of her element in the more lyrical roles.

Verrett was a poet, the marriage of strengh and fragility. There are better versions of this aria by her (In the joint concert in London, for example, she gives a very moving Desdemona. Here, I regret that they have cut for the TV show, Divinités du Styx from Alceste, and the aria of Lia from L'enfant Prodigue by Debussy. Thank you for helping young people to know her a little bit more...!
