Yea, i agree with you.
i remember one of my jumps, when i became unstable and started to fly headdown for a second. I just arched and slowly I had a stable position again.
An Instructor at my club always says: Dick First! Whenever you become unstable, just press your dick forward and everything will be allright. :D

Actually, he did EXACTLY what you're supposed to do as an AFF student if you get out of control & disoriented for 5 seconds.....PULL!!!
Notice that the instructor never flies above him for that very reason - the student is expected to pull if they are out of control and loose altitude awareness for 5 seconds.

I often wonder what students are thinking when they do things like.

DAM you... i failed my level 4 ( still have to do it again). cos one leg was a bit bent. I did two heel clicks but still was bent. so as you said you heard someone say it spins you. Well it did. HEAPS. at the time i was trying to compensate by turning with my arms. but i fanally got kinda stable so the instructer let go for a solo pull.

Kudos to all you folks who have the guts to do this. I had to watch it 2x before seeing something going wrong.

Is it highly recommended newcomers practice bodyflight in the wind tunnels?

exactly what happened to me!! and in that split second of fear the last thing u wanna think about is relaxing!! and after that one time, i did it again straight after grrrrr ....i gave skydiving up, that was a couple of years ago, but now im definitely ready for a AFF course to get rid of that fear!!
Yes, I did pull myself, due to loose of altitude awareness. This was my first skydive without anyone holding on to me (The very reason for the AFF program). The second reason for pulling, I was unable to get back belly to earth. It's up to me to save my life, not my instructor. I was in the saddle at 6 .. I thought I was much much lower than that.

Not sure why, but on the ground before I got up there, I over heard someone saying something about steering with your feet. So stupid me was trying to do this, and hince me putting one foot under another. And yes, due to me being so new, went into what they call, survival mode. What elapsed in 6-10sec. seemed to me about 30sec. or so. I pulled thinking I was around 2grand or lower and settled in at 5800. My brain said pull don't look at your altitude.. just pull before you die.

OK so ive done level 1 aff and planning on doing levels 2-4 this weekend,
So... when he flips to his back he should be just arching hard and then hel flip round again and be stable, this guy didnt do that.did he blank or is it difficult to actually arch out of an unstable position? anybody

Well, this being the 2nd time out with no instructor holding on to me... You are still in the learning phase of how your body works up there. I tried to flip over twice to no prevail. When I lost altitude awareness it really freaked me out so I pulled. I was at 5800 in the seat, but my brain was telling me I was much much lower.
Though now I flip on my back all the time, and honestly I can't tell you how I flip back over.. I just do. Just relax and go with the wind.
