Tom Ridge on John McCain
"Hardball" 5:08pm

TOPIC: Importance of Pennsylvania and Palin's moxy

TRANSCRIPT:
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Does the Palin-McCain ticket . . . will you need to carry Pennsylivania to win this thing? . . .

TOM RIDGE. Yes. Yes.

MATTHEWS: Thank you.

[ . . . ]

MATTHEWS: Let me ask you about Sarah Palin . . . does she still got the excitement level she had a month ago?

RIDGE: . . . when they appeared here in Central Pennsylvania, they had about 7,000 people, they could have had fourteen thousand people . . . yes, theres a certain genuineness and authenticity, I mean, we can talk about who has more experience, who knows more about this issue or that issue but theres a certain refreshing approach that shes brought. She doesnt talk inside beltway, she doesnt talk like the Washington psychobabble . . .

MATTHEWS: Do you think its odd that the Republican party dished out $150,000 in designer clothing when they wanted her to be what you call the genuine article? If shes the genuine article, why do you dress her up like shes from the East Side of New York? Whats the idea? . . . I dont know who Valentino is.

RIDGE: Good. Then why bring it up?

MATTHEWS: Because its $150,000 and its all over the place. And if youre selling her as the lady from the countryside and if you present her as the fashion plate, which is it? Thats all.

RIDGE: . . . the fact of the matter is, whether she wears designer clothes or not. What difference does it even make and why are we even talking about it? Lets talk about she was the governor of an energy rich state, she had executive experience—

MATTHEWS: Why? Why? You know why, because your party is talking about Joe the Plumber. Every damn speech that McCain gives now is about some guy named Joe the Plumber out there who really exists and his house is not worth . . . what her latest clothing allowance is worth. Thats why. Were trying to find some authenticity about the real economic challenges facing people and youre spending more money on clothes for your guy than an iconic heros house is worth. Thats why.

RIDGE: Well, listen, listen, lets, lets, Chirs because its absolutely ridiculous to be having this conversation on national TV. Lets not get into who is spending what on their clothes on either side of the aisle. I dare say, if you went digging into closets perhaps from your candidates, youd find some pretty expensive clothes. Thats immaterial. Its whos going to put the clothes on the backs . . . of that middle class that they talk about . . .

  • Well you may be surprised to know I support universal healthcare like in Canada and have many liberal values, however Obama is not fit to lead this country, especially when we're in WW3 against Islam and some of his closest pals happen to be radical muslims, terrorists and America-haters.

In Europe muslims are majorities already in some cities and they are pushing to take over, they are this century's Nazis. If the US is destroyed say by nuclear-armed terrorists, your healthcare won't matter.

  • Democrats care about health care without CHIP my entire family would have been more than 100,000 dollars in debt right now. George Bush AND John McCain didn't support it getting funded, plus McCain/Palin want to cut Medicaid and Medicare when the go into office, which will leave my grandmother (who currently has emphysema) completely without help. His health care plan is insane, completely INSANE. It will leave countless people without help. But to him, it's a responsibility, not a right.

  • wow what magnificient irony and falsehood, the real cult figure here is Obama, Mr hollow slogans of "Hope and Change" whose own fans call him 'the One' (Oprah), 'the Messiah' (Farrakhan).

Whose followers gather in large numbers and faint at his boring, self-aggrandizing sermons, while his adoring liberal media feel a collective 'thrill running up their leg' on this stuttering, flip-flopping unknown empty suit.

Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Obama etc is what you get when the masses abandon rationality.

  • Liberals have nothing substantive to talk about, all they can understand is petty things since you're petty small-minded, rabidly one sided people.

True Obama needs millions of shrieking mindless global fans to drown out those that point to his obvious lack of experience and zero qualifications, his dangerous connections to terrorists, racists and America-haters and his rookie blunders under fire and that the financial meltdown is a direct result of his and his DemocRatic cronies' policies.

  • Cult of Palin, Seig Heil!! Seig Heil!!!

  • You're saying if you don't go to Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, you dress like a bum? There are plenty of respectable places to buy clothes were you don't spend 4000 dollars for a single shirt (or more, since I, like every normal American woman, doesn't shop at either one of those stores). Greek columns? Ha, good for him, at least he can look Presidential. And, his speech at Berlin had a crowd of 200,000 supporters. It's not about votes, it's about support. WorldWIDE support.

  • What about Obama spending campaign money on his Greek columns or his extravagant trip to Europe to apologize to Germans because he's embarrassed by America's imperfection (as if German's a paradise), they also aren't voting in our elections. Obama's wasted way more donor money on stupid things than McCain's camp has.

Palin is entitled to her clothes-which she doesn't keep, obviously she has to look stately-who'd vote for someone that's dressed like a bum? Use your brain if you have one idiot.

  • Tax breaks sound great, but considering 40% of Americans pay absolutely no income tax now, a handout from Obama to people who don't contribute is WELFARE.

Thats 40% Americans who contribute NOTHING for the millitary, education, roads, government, judicial system or anything else they take full advantage of, who will get rewarded with a big fat check couresy of the other 60% of us that work hard and contribute. Sad that this country is turning to socialist welfare rather than hard work.

  • McCain has 7 fucking houses you moron. It's important because she acts like she's a "hockey mom". And they are spending campaign supporters money on clothes. That's immoral.

  • Because he's black now he's a racist. Because he's black he's not a citizen and a traitor. Maybe you are the racist ever think about that. Fortunatlely there are less and less people like you in America, your days are numbered.
