http://www.nucleusinc.com/medical-animation This 3D medical animation on GERD Surgery shows how the upper portion of the stomach is wrapped around the lower esophagus to strengthen the cardiac sphincter of the stomach. This helps prevent GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), or heartburn. Hiatal hernia repair is also depicted. This involves pulling a portion of the stomach that has protruded from the diaphragm back into place. ANH00011

  • Just had my GERD surgery, suffered for bout 14 years with it before it was finally diagnosed. Had my operation one week ago and so far so good. On a minced diet for three weeks, no coffee, no pop, but no heart burn : ) suggest this to any healthy candidates, did the whole meds thing, expensive and it sucks.

  • @pearce205 Thank you for your comment, and good luck on your recuperation!

  • @nucleusanimation what sort of doctor does this surgery?

  • @razzo086 Typically, a gastroenterologist.

  • I had this surgery 8 months ago...

I never had heart burn in my life but I throw up once a day, usually just saliva.

For some reason the surgery didn't help me. I take meds for acid reflux but it doesn't help much.I dont know whats going on?

  • Scary stuff!

  • @minimullen Go see your GI doc and your surgeon immediately. A hernia stitching coming undone can be repaired and a fundiplocation wrap undoing itself, while rare, can be fixed as well. This is why I've asked my surgeon if they're reinforcing the stitching for my wrap and hernia (my surgeon uses a mesh to reinforce the wrap stitching as well as stitching through the esophagus to prevent any wrap sliding). I'll be scheduling my fundiplocation surgery after a second surgical opinion consult.

  • @minimullen

    comes back? ***

  • I had this surgery half a year ago, it helped about 60 percent with my symptoms, now ALL of my symptoms are back, I think my hernia has returned.

I dont know what to do...

    I have SEVERE acid reflux

    severe palpitations

    gas constantly trapped

and the acid gives me neck pain.

What do you do if the hernia comes back. I dont know where to turn.
