Go into the WMM settings and change the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9.

Sorry, I don't know the remedy for that - I'm new to this editing myself.
I'm currently facing a similar situation on Vimeo (my video was supposed to be widescreen but it looks to have a 4:3 aspect ratio when enlarged to full screen).

Yeah, it looks pretty bad. Give me some ideas then. What software to use and what order of operations should be done. Video editing is completely new to me but love to learn. Thanx

Did windows movie maker let you convert the MTS file to an avi or mpeg?

No. I had used a demo version of VoltaicHD. Full version is only $30. I have a Dell XPS Gen2 laptop. Video playback on it is a little bumpy, but it plays perfectly when exported to PS3. I am new to video editing and Windows Movie Maker. If you've noticed, the video was horizontally compressed for some reason; any idea of how to remedy that?
