Bill Maher Pokes at Obama's Weaknesses on Health Care

Bill Maher talks to Keith Olbermann on Countdown about President Barack Obama's need to stiffen his spine and take it to the rethuiglicans on the Health Care debate. A public health insurance plan must be included in any changes to the current medical mess in the US. Although a single payer plan is preferable, it is at a minimum that a public health insurance plan must pass any Senate vote which will take Obama pushing it.

And Mamou, no one is taking away the insurers ability to compete. If they knew what they were doing then our standing in world health care standings wouldn't be so dismal. It's the same argument the GOP made a decade ago about Charter Schools in reverse. Why should the govt monopolize when they results are not great. HEALTHY COMPETITION (through HIGHLY SUBSIDIZED private charter schools) can do the failing system some good. CAPITALIST INSURERS are failing, HEALTHY COMPETITION will do them good.

@Biltospill Hmmmm, I also have family in Canada, my Aunt just got a knee replacement, if my aunt can get a knee replacement, there is no way your Aunt can't get her hip fixed, you're not telling the whole story, how old is she?, what are all her other conditions....yeah, you guessed it I work in Healthcare/O.R. The best way to demonize something is to expose the real weakness of which I am sure here is, not dream up a fake horror story.

@zhentar I do live in Europe, and one thing is for sure. Heathcare is expensive everywhere. Healthcare is not perfect in the U.S. A. and its not perfect in Europe. Mayby you should live in Europe or Canada before you claim their healthcare is worst,,,,and stop callling people idiots, because they think different than you.

The only thing that could be better for America than the downfall/disbandment/eliminati­on of the Republican Party would be the capture of Bin Laden, North Korea imploding like the USSR, or Iraq and Afghanistan electing secular representatives to install a secular constitution. My Aunt lives in Canada, married a Canadian.She cannot get a second opinion on her recurring cancer.She was last told she has 3 months to live(1.5 years ago). On top of that,a broken hip.They wont fix it due to her diagnosis. She cannot get a second opinion on her diagnosis. So as a family we paid out of pocket to bring her to the States over a year ago. She had her bladder removed and can live a semi-normal life. I would say, you can keep your system. We don't want it. + she has a new hip.
